OWP introduces a new schools team

Janet Payne and Alan MacNaughten from the Groundwork Education Team

National environmental charity Groundwork has recently taken over both the council's waste and energy education programmes, combining them to form a new Green Schools Programme which saves Oxfordshire Waste Partnership (OWP) over £50,000 per year. By having one new programme OWP's education costs have gone from £130k in 2010/11 to £80 in 2011/12.

At the same time as cutting costs, the new Green School Programme contract with Groundwork Thames Valley has the potential to deliver extra school visits, set up a network of hub schools to engage with the community, and attend events.

Richard Pollard from Groundwork Thames Valley manages the new Green School Programme. He says: "This is an exciting opportunity for us to help educate young minds on the importance of looking after the environment. The team are keen to connect with children in the classroom over the coming weeks."
