Witney Woodland Volunteers litter-pick

Staff from West Oxfordshire District Council, Oxfordshire Waste Partnership and the Fox FM thunder crew joined local group Witney Woodland Volunteers on Monday 22 September to tidy a section of the Windrush River as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign.

Juliet Curry, organises the volunteer group and is passionate about enhancing Witney's natural environment. "We meet weekly to clear footpaths and maintain the water meadows and small wooded areas along the Windrush River" says Juliet. "Keeping the area free from litter means many more people can appreciate the true charm of the area."

In just one morning the group managed to collect 28 bags of litter, nine of which could be recycled, one abandoned bicycle and part of an old shopping trolley.

Oxfordshire Waste Partnership, supplied the volunteers with litter-picking equipment, and will be supporting other groups throughout the county during September’s Big Tidy Up campaign. More information about the campaign can be found at www.oxfordshirewaste.gov.uk or by calling 01295 22 19 16.
