Environment group pick up £250 for litter-pick

Cllr John Tanner presents the cheque to Raquel Stremme and the Canalside Environment Group

Previous winners of an Oxfordshire Sustainability and Conservation Award, Oxford's Canalside Environment Group, picked up another prize this month for their hard work improving their local surroundings.

The £250 prize, provided by Oxfordshire Waste Partnership (OWP), was a reward for one volunteer group that took part in the county-wide Spring Clean earlier in the year.

Raquel Stremme is one of the Community Action Group's enthusiastic volunteers. She says "We're thrilled to receive this money. We want to buy something the whole group will benefit from. I guarantee we'll have loads of great ideas how to spend it at our next meeting!"

Cllr John Tanner, presented the cheque in his role as chair of OWP and Oxford City Council cabinet member for Cleaner Greener Oxford. John says, "I'm delighted to award a well deserved prize to this inspiring North Oxford group. We hope that in these touch economic times the money will be a welcome boost to enable these committed volunteers to continue their good work."
