Fill Your Christmas sack

Residents in Cherwell, Oxford City, South and West Oxfordshire will be receiving a Christmas sack in time for the big day, but it won’t be filled with gifts; residents need to fill it themselves! The sacks are to help householders recycle all the extra packaging and wrapping generated over the festive period.

Cherwell District Council bid to Oxfordshire Waste Partnership (OWP) to fund this project, and in true partnership spirit the other three districts came on board too.

OWP chair Cllr John Tanner says: “We can all try and reduce the amount of waste we make over Christmas, but if there are still too many recyclables for the normal collection residents can use their Christmas sack. We hope these extra recycling sacks will help residents reduce their ‘Christmas footprint’.”

One sack will be delivered to every home across the four Oxfordshire districts before Christmas, with extras sacks being available at council offices. Full sacks will be picked up with the normal recycling for two weeks after Christmas.
