Green Bauble guide
Look out for the Green Bauble guide to our greenest businesses.

Oxfordshire’s greenest businesses are been recognised for the great work they’re doing in saving energy and promoting recycling. Businesses with a sparkling Green Bauble logo on their letterhead, on their website or in their window have been nominated by one of Oxfordshire’s network of Community Action Groups (CAGs).
In conjunction with the Oxfordshire Town Chambers Network and Oxfordshire Waste Partnership, CAG Oxfordshire created the 2008 green business awards. They are now busy nominating businesses whose work on energy saving or promoting re-duce, re-use, recycle messages to staff, customers and their communities deserves recognition.
One way to boost the environment and improve your business bottom line at the same time is by having a waste audit at your premises. Waste audits are being offered free to Oxfordshire businesses on a first-come-first-served basis. To book your audit visit www.otcn.co.uk or call Oxfordshire County Council Commercial Waste Management on 01865 816043.
Already X businesses have won Green Bauble awards. Among them, Abingdon Carbon Cutter has recommended Local Roots who retail quality goods, including produce, art, furnishing, gifts, and home wares, that have been produced within a 30 miles radius of their shop. Sukey Jones at Local Roots says: “We believe in promoting an ecological approach to retail, with our produce sourced from organic farms and smallholdings, we have an emphasis on fair trade and minimal environmental impact in all aspects of the business”.
Thame Environment Group, have selected a number of retailers in the town that have either had a light bulb audit, or who have been particularly helpful in distributing reusable bags as part of the campaign to create a plastic bag free town. Alison Isherwood says: “Our group also selected Thame Town Council as it has converted the Town Hall to low energy lighting which, over the life time of the bulbs, will save more than £2,300 in electricity costs as well as reducing its carbon footprint by more than 11 tonnes of carbon dioxide.”

CAG Oxfordshire is a network of local Community Action Groups working to increase awareness of waste issues and reduce the amount of resources that are thrown away. Each CAG is unique, but all are run by local volunteers who organise events and initiatives in their local communities to reduce, reuse or recycle. See www.cagoxfordshire.org.uk.
