Oxfordshire’s home compost bin offer is set to continue for another year.
Over fifty thousand compost bins have been sold across the county over the past nine years and with over 2,100 sold over the last twelve months people are still keen to start composting or compost even more.
As of 1 April 2011, a 220 litre bin will cost £15 and the larger 330 litre bin will cost just £18. Householders can also get a second bin for half price, so those with larger gardens or who share an order with their neighbours can save even more. A per order delivery charge of £5.95 means bins delivered straight to the door for significantly less than most ‘high street’ stores. Other green gardening items such as wormeries and wooden compost bins are available through the offer.
Eiles Robinson is household waste reduction officer for the county council. She says: “Composting is great for gardens. It provides a rich organic material for the soil, saves money on shop-bought compost and keeps cost down for the council on collecting food and garden waste.”
Despite Oxfordshire Waste Partnership’s special offer on compost bins, Eiles is keen to stress that it’s not simply about selling bins. She adds: “We simply want to encourage people to compost their waste as it’s better for the environment.
