Big push for final weekend of Tidy Up campaign

The Big Tidy Up campaign has been running throughout September and local councils, through Oxfordshire Waste Partnership (OWP), have teamed up with Fox FM to organise a really big tidy up on the last weekend of the month.

Volunteer groups from all over the county will be joined by Fox FM Thunder crew and OWP representatives to clear footpaths, hedges and housing estates from litter.

From WI members to college students, the groups already taking part in this campaign have been truly diverse and demonstrate how everyone hates to see litter blight their surroundings.

Cllr John Tanner chairs OWP and will be getting involved himself this weekend. “I’ll be out litter-picking on Saturday because I’m passionate about cleaning up local areas. The enthusiastic community groups who are taking part in the Big Tidy are making a real difference to Oxfordshire.”

Saturday’s events will include:

Mark Harmon, environmental protection manager at Cherwell District Council has been coordinating the tidy ups in North Oxfordshire, he says, “In addition to clearing litter, OWP has provided groups with clear sacks to separate out recyclable waste. It’s not too late to get involved in a tidy up, call us on 01295 22 19 16 to find out more.”
